The Serum Bar That Broke the Skincare Industry

As an esthetician for 15 years, I have seen my fair share of over-hyped, underwhelming products come out on the market. I've tried and tested plenty of "miracle" creams and potions that turned out to be a complete waste of money, and I've learned that if it sounds too good to be true—it usually is.

So when I first read about the Dew Mighty Bloom Jelly Serum Bar, how it moisturizes, nourishes, brightens skin tone, calms irritation, soothes redness and inflammation, and gives skin a youthful glow, I was, of course, a little skeptical.

It can be challenging to treat various skin conditions and concerns using just one product. The product needs varying active ingredients in different quantities to be effective. Not only that, but some ingredients can counteract one another, and sometimes it isn't advisable to use certain ingredients together. Take AHA's and Retinol as an example. Due to their exfoliating benefits, using them together can cause sensitivity, peeling, and irritation.

Dew Mighty also claims that their Bloom Jelly Serum Bar replaces your serums, oils, moisturizers, lotions, and creams. It sounds amazing, but could it be true?

One Serum Bar to Rule Them All

It's a brave company that can confidently stand up in front of almost every skincare product and says: "See ya! We'll take it from here, guys". After reading through their website, I was curious about this mighty little bar. How can this product replace my serums, oils, and moisturizers?

Because I live in complete FOMO, even if I have my doubts about something, I always have to try it, mostly because I'm wrong 78% of the time.

So, Dew Mighty graciously sent me samples (yay!). I was unexpectedly excited about receiving this product because:

  1. Who doesn't love free samples?;
  2. It sounds like such a brilliant and innovative concept that if they can pull this off, I will become their biggest fan.

Waterless Wonder

Just a side note, the Bloom Jelly Serum Bar is also waterless. For anyone who's staying up-to-date, waterless skincare is one of the latest trends in the industry.

Unlike trends that make no sense whatsoever (like hairy nails or beard ornaments), waterless skincare makes so much sense that it should have been a thing long ago.

The beauty industry is one of the biggest contenders in water waste on our planet. Almost every skincare product on the shelf contains water—and it's usually the highest concentration out of all the ingredients. The industry also uses hundreds of thousands of gallons of water just in manufacturing. So it's no wonder two-thirds of the world's population may face a water shortage as soon as 2025.

Dew Mighty is tackling this environmental problem with its hero product. They have formulated their Bloom Jelly Serum Bar without using water—from the harvest stage to the production stage. This is considered anhydrous and without measurable water activity, and is freaking awesome.

The Proof is in the Science

The science behind Dew Mighty's Bloom Jelly Serum Bar is all thanks to their founder, Tiffany. She has a background in science and biology, and her passion for sustainability and skincare shines through when she speaks. This brilliant and energetic woman breaks all kinds of rules and innovates in a space that desperately needs help.

After speaking to Tiffany for 30 seconds, it was clear that Dew Mighty is more than just a new skincare brand on the block; they are a force to be reckoned with.

The Documented Unboxing

I was anticipating the delivery of this ingenious little product. So much so, that I ended up documenting my unboxing experience for your viewing pleasure.

So here goes.

The parcel was compact—a good starting point. I'm so used to receiving a large box for small items filled with paper or plastic to stop the small items from flopping around inside. Like, hello? Use a smaller box, please. Dew Mighty's conscious decision to use the right-sized packaging to suit their product made me incredibly pleased.

The box also had some fun messaging on the outside. Statements like "No Planet B. We Give a Sh*t," which I love. Because I, too, give a sh*t.

Now let's get to the goods.

The products were snugly packed. There was a reusable metal tin made from recyclable materials—very nice. The tin was one of two designs. I received the Wood Grain patterned tin, and they also have a Water Ripples designed tin. It is a good size, making it easy to remove the serum bar.

The serum bars come packaged in boxes made from compostable paper. The paper box had instructions, ingredients, and all the usual important information typically found on skincare products neatly and cleverly designed onto the tiny little box. Creative use of space—love it!

So far, I was pretty impressed by this unboxing experience.

I received the normal-sized bar and a smaller deluxe sample size shaped like a flower. Visually, the serum bars were as expected—compact. But I didn't let the size damper my cheerleader spirit. I'm always a fan of the underdog, and I had a sneaking suspicion that this product would rock my world.

Aromatically, they smell divine, with a light floral scent. There are notes of blue chamomile, blue tansy, jasmine, gardenia, magnolia bark, and ylang-ylang. But it also had a fresh and clean aroma, so much so that my husband was quite content using it after shaving.

The day wasn't over, but I wanted to wash my face so badly just to try the Bloom Jelly Serum Bar, so I did.

Swipe with joy. It said on the instructions.

I'm not one to read instructions thoroughly, especially when I'm excited to test out a new product, so without reading the rest, I swiped the bar across my cheeks, chin, nose, and forehead, then used my fingertips to massage it all in.

To my surprise, I didn't need to use water to get the bar to glide. My body warmth was just right for the serum to slide across my skin and give just a touch of "dewiness."

Here is a small disclaimer: I have normal-oily skin, so I should have read the second sentence of the instructions. It would have taken me three more seconds of my life.

It says Regular-Oily Skin - massage bar in hands and transfer by the pat methodDry-Regular skin users usually prefer the swipe directly onto the face method.

I felt very nourished that night. But I was going to bed, so it wasn't an issue. I tried it the following day and just used the regular-oily skin "pat method." It worked a treat!

On my makeup-free days, I used the Bloom Jelly Serum Bar morning and night. I also tried it on my makeup days, just to see how it held up. I preferred the Bloom Jelly Serum Bar for my oily skin on my makeup-free days. It gave my complexion a dewy glow, so I didn't feel the need to use makeup.

I tried the Bloom Jelly Serum Bar under my makeup on three occasions. After the third time, I decided that I needed to use my usual moisturizer to help with oil control underneath my foundation. I don't wear foundation all the time, so I use the Bloom Jelly Serum Bar almost every day. It lasts up to 120 uses, so I'll report back with any further news in a couple of months.

Product Review After Five Days

After using Dew Mighty Bloom Jelly Serum Bar for five consecutive days and nights, I can honestly say that I am very impressed. This small bar packs a mighty punch, and it does so without impacting the environment negatively.

The bar feels like a hard jelly-like bar of soap, but when you work it with your fingertips, it feels a little oily—but not greasy. After only one day, my skin felt softer and more supple. When used according to the directions, there is no slimy residue left behind (always read the directions, friends).

I would love to try this again in Winter because I think this will work even better to protect my skin from the cold elements and keep it feeling hydrated and dewy.

Who would love this product?

  • Anyone with dry or dehydrated skin.
  • Anyone with normal to oily skin who wants a more dewy feeling.
  • Anyone who has skin concerns, such as fine lines, redness, irritation, dark spots, inflammation, dull complexion, and pigmentation.
